Puppy Delivery
Well it is two and half weeks till we have are next litter. The whelping room is
beginning to take shape once again.
I thought you folks may enjoy knowing what we do prior to and during the
delivery of pups.
Two weeks prior to delivery we clean, sterilize and set up the whelping room.
The pregnancy is 64 days and in some cases premature delivery can happen
after the 50th day.
The last week of the pregnancy she is moved in to the whelping room and
allowed to den.
The day of her 1st delivery date we start to stay with her 24/7 and this will
continue until the pups are two to three weeks old.
Delivery day labor can be as short as a few hrs and as long as a few days.
Delivery it self is not much different than a human birth. The average weight is
1 lb but can range from 6 oz (small) to 1lb 6 oz (large).
11/17/08
The last week and half of the pregnancy we start recording temps for times a
day. The body temp of female will drop to 99.5 99.8 during pre labor and then
spike back up when full labor begins.
By charting the temps we prior to we can get a better picture of hoe the female
is progressing and better determine the actual date of delivery.
I will be adding more each day and if you have a question please send it along
and I will post it.
