| About Redoak Kennels Redoak Kennels is dedicated to maintaining the Saint Bernard breed based on European standards. Our blood lines are from both Domestic and International champions. For hundreds of years the main gateway between Switzerland and Italy has been the Pass of St. Bernard. Here, where the snow is deep 9 months out of the 12, Bernard de Menthon, Archdeacon of Aosta, in 1049 built his famous hospice as a refuge for weary travelers. Over the years the hospice became known for its search and rescue dogs. Using their keen sense of smell they would assist in the location of lost travelers. Once found the dog would aid in keeping the lost traveler warm with its large body and high heat output until additional help arrived. These rescue dogs soon became known as the Saint Bernard and gained world recognition . Today’s Saint Bernard is a bit different from those very early years, but its gentleness and desire to please still remains. Redoak Kennels strives to promote and maintain the original temperament, structure and movement of these majestic animals. We invite you to visit our web site to learn more about our dogs and our kennel. If you are considering a Saint for your home, we would love the opportunity to share our pups with you. Thank you.
